Building Community through Theatre
OUT Maine is teaming up with The Waldo and the Open House of History for a new 12-week theatre program this spring that is open to LGBTQ+ youth in grades 9-12! Step into a vibrant creative space where identity, artistry, and community come together. Let’s ask bold questions about who we are, where we come from, and how we want to shape the world.
Together, we’ll explore essential inquiries at the heart of queer experience, such as: Who are we beyond labels and rainbows? What larger history of queer people are we part of, and how central is that history to the evolution of society and culture as a whole?
Through dynamic theatre exercises, storytelling, movement, and collaborative creation, participants will develop expressive tools that lead to an original performance art piece presented at the program’s finale. No prior theatre experience is required—only curiosity, openness, and a desire to create.
Space is limited for this program. We will be meeting weekly on Tuesdays, 5:00-6:30pm, March 3rd through May 26th. A final performance will take place in June. The Prism Project meets in person in Waldoboro; exact location shared upon registration.
To register, navigate through the form here by clicking “Youth Programs” > “Youth Groups” > “Arts Programs” > “The Prism Project”. You will be prompted to create a free account/profile. For help using our system, please contact program@outmaine.org.
