Classroom Interventions for Identity-Based Bullying

We’re teaming up with Community Action in Aroostook, Washington, and Hancock Counties (formerly ACAP) to provide training for school and education professionals! Fostering a safe and positive learning environment is a powerful tool to help students attend and learn at school. Have you ever overheard hurtful language meant to put someone down that made you or someone you know feel unwelcome or unsafe? It can be challenging to know how to address harmful language in the moment. In this session we will use the IQEE (Interrupt, Question, Educate, and Echo) method to practice combatting harmful speech towards communities that are more likely to experience school bullying like LGBTQ+ students, students of color, etc. When you hear something icky, use IQEE to make your school community a more positive learning environment for all students.
