Training for service providers

Best Practices for Working with LGBTQ+ Youth and Families While Navigating Ethical Challenges.

(7 contact hours)

Assumes participants have completed our half-day introductory training or have a baseline knowledge of terminology, risk and protective factors of working with LGBTQ+ youth.

  • Designed for professionals working with youth and families over time -- in-patient/ outpatient settings, community-based offices and private practices.

  • Strengthens professional capacity to work affirmatively with these youth.

  • Builds understanding of the challenges, risks and protective factors for these young people.

  • Explores the ethical challenges in negotiating the youth/family dynamics.

  • Provides tips & resources for working more effectively with youth & their families.

  • The realities & risk factors of LGBTQ+ youth.

  • Protective factors to support transgender youth in schools.

  • Key legal requirements -- names, pronouns, bathrooms and facilities, other important factors.

  • Steps to make classrooms and schools more welcoming and affirming.

  • Provides useful, easy-to-implement tools.
