With the Centers for Disease Control recommending cancellations of any large gatherings, Camp Wavus has decided to close for the 2020 spring season.

OUT Maine will still have online versions of many of the Rainbow Ball Weekend activities which are listed on the Youth Programs page.

Rainbow Ball Weekend will return to Camp Wavus in 2021 and is scheduled for April 30th - May 2nd, 2021.

about rainbow Ball weekend

Started 13 years ago, Rainbow Ball Weekend is larger than an event, it is 3 days of educational and social programming for 200 Maine lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning (LGBTQ) and allied high school students. Rainbow Ball Weekend builds community and connections, opens youth to a wider world of more acceptance and opportunity, and encourages educational aspirations.

Rainbow Ball Weekend’s programming and activities directly address the isolation, underdeveloped aspirations, academic challenges, health risks and lack of hope faced by many Maine LGBTQ youth. Each year, youth look forward to this weekend, which includes a safe prom, workshops, and leadership skill-building, thanks to our partnership with Camp Kieve-Wavus. Rainbow Ball Weekend gives participants a year-long sense of community, hope, joy, and motivation to complete high school that is supported by ongoing regional youth-connecting events in the ensuing months.

In 2019 the founders and organizers of Rainbow Ball Weekend transferred the planning and hosting of the weekend to OUT Maine, recognizing their stellar track record supporting LGBTQ youth across the state of Maine. OUT Maine will sustain Rainbow Ball Weekend so that youth can count on this important weekend each spring.
